Coldplay takes over NYC, the radio

Before kicking off the first leg of their upcoming U.S. tour, Coldplay performed an invite-only free show last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Though from a quick look around the blogosphere, it appears that the spectacle surrounding the performance might have been a bit more interesting than the actual concert itself…

Actresses Charlize Theron and Kirsten Dunst joined supermodel Helena Christensen in the 10,000-strong audience….

[Coldplay] gave away thousands of tickets through their website - although some were said to be changing hands for up to $800 a pair on eBay.

Regardless of the money, celebrities, afterparty, and even technological difficulties, Coldplay reportedly did manage to put on a rather solid performance. The band’s first show in the states in nearly two years featured a 70-minute set, highlighted by renditions of “Clocks”, “My Place”, and “Viva La Vida”.

“Fix You”

In other news, it was announced today that Chris Martin and company will be joining the likes of Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and Jimmy Buffett as musicans with their own radio station. That’s right, begining July 15, “30 Days of Coldplay” will air on XM Radio (channel XM 51), providing fans “with music from the Coldplay catalog, including import-only released tracks and other hard-to-find recordings and tracks from their new album, an uncut, exclusive concert broadcast from the Viva La Vida North American Tour, plus other live performances, interviews and more.”

The station will be on air between July 15 and August 15. After that, it is anyones guess…
