Another chance at a Libertines reunion?

Another chance at a Libertines reunion?

Pete Doherty is once again collaborating with another high-profile British musician. Only this time around it isn’t Amy Winehouse that the former Libertine is working with, but rather ex-bandmate Carl Barât. According to The Sun, the two men recently began working on material for a new British musical, set to debut at the Donmar Warehouse early next year.

And as would be expected, resulting rumors of a potential Libertines reunion have started making theirs rounds around the music community. “Songs have been pouring out and they’re considering holding back a few compositions to record and maybe release in the future,” The Sun went on to quote a “source” in the article, while others are now speculating that the two may collaborate on stage during the upcoming Glastonbury Music Festival.

In reality, most of this is a byproduct of both British tabloids gunning for a story that sells and fans once again getting their hopes up for a potential reunion that has now been four years in the making. But Barât and Dirty Pretty Things are currently gearing up for the release of their new studio album, Romance at Short Notice, while believe it or not, Doherty is still working on his much-hyped solo album.

What’s more, this most recent collaboration should come as no surprise as the two have been talking about the project for the last year.

In other words, don’t get too excited about the news and/or expect a new Libertines album anytime soon. A reunion will happen, there is no doubt about - just as long as Doherty stays somewhat competent. The question remains when, an answer that will likely result when the band, not us, deem it’s time.
