Kanye’s tears of frustration

Kanye’s tears of frustration

There’s civil, there’s outlandish, and then there’s childish. Somehow Kanye West has managed to hit the last two, without ever really making use of the former. It’s a shame too, because not only is he one of the most talented rappers out there, but one of the best performers of his time. Don’t believe me? Check out my review from last month. He knows how to bring down an arena and what’s even more fascinating, he does it himself. Maybe that’s why he’s so mad, as he posts on his blog, regarding the debacle at Bonnaroo, which brought thousands of fans to declare, “Fuck Kanye!” as the sun rose across Manchester, Tennessee.

But does he have to be such a baby?

In a blog post last night, West went a lil’ overboard (actually, that’s an understatement) and lambasted the entire media (and his doubting fans) for negating his “special abilities.” It’s actually pretty hilarious, so you should check it out for yourself, but here are our favorite parts:

I understand if people don’t like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much,  But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life. This is the most offended I’ve ever been… this is the maddest I ever will be.  I’m typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!

Hopefully he has a deal with Mac.

FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES… WE’D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY’D SAY OK… THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN’T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH FUCKING IDIOTS WHO DIDN’T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY.

This is understandable. But, “fucking idiots?” Don’t expect Mr. West, Mr. West in Tennessee anytime soon, or ever.

PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR  LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  AT THAT POINT WE’RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s at this point, where the exclamation marks let me know how angry he truly is. Even off the stage, he truly knows how to perform.

AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, ” IT  WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!” I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN.  REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV??????

Wasn’t he originally scheduled for 2:45 A.M.? Anyhow, I’d be upset if people were throwing garbage at my digital dancer, too.

ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN’T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT’S GREATEST FORM… BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART.  I’M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN’T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I’M SORRY…

While “Stronger” certainly had a killer performance on his Glow in the Dark Tour, having the song play with the sunrise, to me, would be both surreal and unique. It’s a shame he couldn’t see it that way. Having said that, it’s understandable… his frustration, that is.

I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT… HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF… CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!!!

This is where it gets a lil’ overdramatic. I mean, can anyone in any genre (other than Kanye West) say these things and withhold their credibility? Not really.

It’s pieces of raw data like this that let us know why we still follow up with the egotistical maniac. He’s supremely fascinated with himself, and because of that, love it or hate it, we are too. It’s reasons like this that give fuel to paparazzi everywhere.

That being said, he probably should have written this all in a letter and kept it in the desk for a day or two. You know, like ten year old’s are told to do?

  1. I drank double shots of espresso and missed part of Sigur Ros to be dead center, down front (almost on the rail behind the pit). I hated waiting….but in my opinion, what we saw was pretty cool. Granted I was bummed the show was cut short…and that the only thing that was glowing was the sun….but what upset me was no “hey bonnaroo” or “good morning bonnaroo”…not even an encore!! Just because the sun came up didn’t mean he had to stop. I thought he was come back and do some more…that would have been killer.

Pearl Jam played over…but they interacted with the crowd. They had the biggest crowd of the weekend from what I could tell. People were enjoying it.

p.s. that stage was mostly set up by 3am.

p.s.s. I’ll take The Flaming Lips UFO show again over GITD

  2. maybe he should try to rely on his talent istead of his dumbass stage.

  3. He has a right to be pissed - Pearl Jam playing an hour over their set time is not right. It’s ok to play 10, maybe 20 minutes top over your given time, but an hour? Why didnt the stage crew stop them or something? If you have a very elaborate stage that needs to be set up, i’d say running things on time should be a priority. so even though I dont like kanye, I blame bonnaroo for what happen more than I blame him.

but still, even when it isnt his fault, kanye still manages to make himself look like a child. kanye, grow up. things dont always go your way and you’re going to have bad experiences. get over it dude.

  4. Sorry for the double post but I just realized something; most bands see Bonnaroo as a huge deal, usually doing something special or different than their regular shows. I seemed that Kanye didn’t think of Bonnaroo as a big deal and just wanted to get the show over with. I was INCREDIBLY dissapointed and probably could have had the same experience listening to his CDs. I mean Pearl Jam played W.M.A. for the first time in forever at Bonnaroo but Kanye just saw it as another show, really dissapointing….

  5. You know I was there 15 mins before his original scheduled start time and waited and watched the whole show and I would have been alright with the wait if he would have acknowledged the crowd or something. It was ridiculous that he just got on stage and then finished his set without a word to the audience. I can’t believe I slept through Pearl Jam to be awake for that, biggest mistake I made the whole weekend.

  6. There are pictures of him at a party, though I’m not sure if anything has officially been confirmed.

  7. Oo, I wouldn’t go that far, Luke. I still consider Oasis a bit overrated. I’ve never been impressed with their music as much as I have been with Kanye’s… ever.

  8. Kayne West = Oasis (or at least Noel and Liam) as far as amazingly talented babies.

  9. You know what, fuck Kanye! As I roamed around the Bonnaroo campgrounds Sunday morning I could always say that and hear it returned. Why, because no one there had ever seen a musician pay that much disrespect to fans. Pearl Jam went a little late but, guess what Kanye, they’re the headliners, they can do what they want. Short on time? Maybe Kanye should go talk to the crew from Ghostland Observatory, they managed to put together the most bad ass laser show I have ever seen in less than half the time it took his crew to even assemble your incomplete set. Oh and where was Kanye’s crew? Me and my friends were there, we never saw no one really working on stage to bring your show. Shit, last year the flaming lips landed a goddamned UFO on the Which stage (which is where you were suppose to be). And who the fuck is Kanye to demand that Phil Lesh go off so he can go up there and play his half ass no energy set. Phil Lesh!! The fucking Grateful Dead invented the whole fucking scene man. Kanye has not paid his dues to shut out Lesh. Then you come on and you dont even acknowledge the crowd. Not a hello or a goodbye. Your nothing without your fans. The ‘Roo thing may not be your scene, but their were a whole hell of a lot of rooers there excited about your show who were really ready to give you a chance, and what do you do, you piss all over them. I do think your very talented, but I will never attempt to see you live and will discourage anyone I know from witnessing the half ass live show that is Knaye Worst. I hope that Live Nation and Superfly drop Kanye’s ass. I guess I can probably except the same at Virgin Fest since Kanye obviously doesn’t respect a festival crowd. Robert Randolph said it best, all those great acts to grace that stage and throw down killer sets over the past seven years, and you barely even bother to show up - Kanye Sucks!

  10. can someone please confirm whether he had been performing in Atlanta that same evening?

  11. Yeah, he’s an asshole. But that’s why he’s so fascinating. It’s like.. “How far can he go?”

Kind of like a car wreck.

  12. I can’t believe he still has the nerve to blame Pearl Jam. That was clearly a Bonnaroo PR move to help Kanye. An hour over schedule still left his crew 1 1/2 hours to set up, which is more time than anyone else had to get ready at the festival (and 30 mins. longer than he originally had when he was set to play at 8:15). I was debating whether to include my part about Mr. West in my article, but I think this just sealed the deal. Stay tuned…

  13. Kanye West is a piece of shit and every video I see of this show is embarassing. I find it hard to believe even the biggest Kanye fan doesn’t cringe when he’s having conversations with the robot thing.

  14. [...] have every album he has ever made, I always keep up with either his blog or tour information (even his Bonnaroo incident, which again was another ridiculous move on his part), so when I tell you how supercilious Kanye [...]

  15. [...] suppose Kanye’s personal response to all his Bonnaroo critics didn’t end up helping his cause all that [...]
