The Cold War Kids are finally gearing up for the release of their followup to 2006’s critically acclaimed Robbers & Cowards. While the album still lacks a name – or perhaps it just hasn’t been unveiled yet – it does have a September 23 release date and teaser trailer.
The new record is a lot different. We recorded it with the same guy, but with the last record we had a guy named Dave Sardy (Oasis, Jet, Rolling Stones) mix it. And it was much more of a ’slick’ sound than what we wanted for this one. So the same guy who recorded the new one, Kevin McGuiness, mixed it as well. I think the first record had a much colder feel. More vocals up front and a kind’ve high sound. This one is much more warm and low end and the vocals are back in the mix. A much more drum and bass heavier record than the last one.

Along with news of the upcoming album, the Cold War Kids also dished out a bunch of new tours, which will include a number of stints at some of the more notable end of summer music festivals.

I’m really looking forward to this album. I tried to see them at Lolla a year or two ago but they were on a side stage that was slammed with people. You couldn’t get anywhere near it. I was hoping to finally see them on this tour, but I guess not. Indy gets screwed again!
I wish they would tour anywhere near me. Hardly any bands tour down in South Florida. I mean Miami a big city, it should attract more bands besides the emo/hipster shit that it gets now. Thank God My Morning Jacket is gonna be down here in August, I’m dying to see a good concert
v.excited about this sucker.
