Portishead look toward #4
Portishead aren’t going to take another 11 years to release a new studio album. In fact, contrary to earlier reports, the English natives are already thinking ahead to the followup of 2007’s Third. In a recent interview with BBC 6Music, guitarist Adrian Utley revealed that the band will begin recording their fourth studio album in the near future.
However, another extensive gap between releases is not on the cards, as Utley revealed work on their next record has already begun.
“We got together the other night discussing stuff and getting a bit of a plan together,” he explained.
He then told 6 Music that while they have got songs written already, they probably won’t make the final cut: “I mean we have got stuff, but we’ll start again - that’s what we want to do.”
Believe it or not, this is not the first we’ve heard about a new Portishead album. In May, drummer Geoff Barrow expressed similar enthusiasm about working on new material.
However with news of the album also came the revealation that at least for the time being, Portishead won’t be hitting the road anytime soon. “We’re all gonna be doing stuff. We’ve finished our touring for this album for this year because of things that we want to do,” Utley went on to note.
No word on which of Portishead’s new songs will be covered by Radiohead…

I’m soooooooo glad I went to Coachella.
