Dashboard Confessional pencil fall release

You remember Dashboard Confessional, right? Oh, come on! You don’t remember your girlfriend singing irritatingly to “Screaming Infidelities” in the car? That’s surprising. I almost lost control of my Jetta twice. Anyhow, the band’s been writing and they have an album ready for this fall. Rather than producer Don Gilmore, who worked with singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba on the band’s last two works (2006 album & EP), the Boca Raton quartet have been carving out songs with Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne fame.

“Some producers do an amazing job of inventing new techniques. But Adam understands the palette of craftsmanship. He’s really good,” says Carrabba, who’s particularly enthused by tracks like “If This Is Chemical” and “No News Is Bad News.”

“It’s a nice marriage of where I’ve come from and where I’ve gotten to. For me, it’s the track that ties all the ends together,” he says of the latter.

Carrabba enlisted Schlesinger because the material, “to be frank, it’s a bit poppy. But not in a ‘pop’ popular music way — in the grand tradition of a power-pop writing style, which Adam is spectacular at. This is as close as I get to it. I’m a bit of an angular writer and I felt myself being pulled in this new direction. He’s a master of that end of the scope.”

It’s been awhile since anyone has heard the band, but from the looks of it, Carrabba sounds pretty excited about the new material, which should also take the band out on the road later this year. So, boyfriends anonymous, get your shoulder dry and ready.

And start worrying about those mascara stains!
