Rocklahoma brings hair metal back into the spotlight
In the veins of the once coveted metal festival Ozzfest and the likes of Chicago’s block party that is Lollapalooza, Rocklahoma aims to bring back the nostalgia of the hairspray laden bands of the 80’s. Bands such as Living Colour, Dokken, and countless others are making their way to the middle of Oklahoma to put on the biggest 80’s block party of the summer. Expect to see many old 80’s style bottles of Bud Light, far removed from the days of the singing “Bud-Weis-Er” frogs as well as the smell of spritz, hair gel and twenty year old bottles of Chanel for all the ladies to wear.
Heather Caliendo of The Journal Record writes in regard to the newfound success of the festival:
“The actual event is like a high school reunion for a bunch of kids, but these are ‘80s hair bands,” said Mark Nuessle, founder and general manager of Rocklahoma, which opens today and continues through Sunday.
The concert may be smack in the middle of rural Oklahoma, but last year’s event brought in daily crowds of over 30,000. People came from every state in the United States and 37 countries on every continent except Antarctica.
The festival begins tonight for those of you who are fortunate to go. It’s only $25 for general admission and if you’re a member of the Armed Forces, you get in for free. How badass is that?
