Green River reunite for Sub Pop celebration

In what would make flannel shirts dance with joy, combat boots dig deeper into mud-filled banks and our own Editor-in-Chief Michael Roffman spew his cereal in joy, legendary proto-grunge rockers Green River will reunite for the first time in twenty-one years this Sunday the 13th. The band, which consists primarily of Pearl Jam axemen Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament and members of Mudhoney, recently rehearsed their old material in regards to Sub Pop’s 20th anniversary which will take place on Sunday.

Jeff Ament talked about the reunion and other things in the works:

Ament told Billboard.com that the band has re-learned two previously unreleased songs called “Leech” and “Baby, Help Me Forget” from its first demo for the occasion. Ament explained, “In a weird way, those are probably some of the best songs we have…At the time, we thought they were way too simple or not challenging enough. But in retrospect, they’re really great pop songs. We re-learned those two, but there are five or six songs that never got released.”

Ament also hinted at a future collaboration saying he enjoyed “working with those guys.”

Could the wave of grunge possibly be kickstarting again? What’s old is new again, the old saying goes, and every twenty years we get what’s back in style again. Just like Patrick Swayze’s character, Bodhi, in the 1991 classic surf/crime film “Point Break” says, “One wave…just one wave!” That’s all that’s needed and hopefully this will be it.

  1. i think grunge and the Seatle sound has made a comeback, some of the biggest tours of the year have been PJ, STP, Foo, and Pumpkins, they were all involved in the Seatle sound one way or the other- i know Billy is from Chi town and Stp originally from L.A. but they were all part of that scene.

  2. hail to the almighty & the legendary GREEN RIVER !!

  3. Amen kujoy
