Of Montreal drops album info, tour dates
Kevin Barnes is ready to show off his most recent project. After proclaiming last month that he has finished Of Montreal’s ninth studio album, Skeletal Lamping, the always enthusiastic frontman has since revealed that you’ll be able to hear the effort begining October 7, when it will hit music shelves and digital stores via Polyvinyl.
Unfortunately, Barnes has still yet to officially unveil the album’s tracklist, instead offering only words of caution regarding its direction and sound.
I worry that some people are going to misunderstand it. There’s nothing I can do about that though, now, it is done. Anyways, I didn’t create it to give people something to like. I created it because I was compelled to…
Some of the transitions are intentionally awkward. I did this to keep the listener off guard and to dismantle people’s perception of how an album is supposed to be constructed,” Barnes went on to explain in the posting, all in hopes of representing his self-described perpetual state of confusion, “I wanted to make a record that could truly surprise a listener. To create something that was, in turns, enraging, joyous, discomforting, playful, lovely ,unpleasant, freaky, mesmeric…something that came close to capturing the labyrinthine complexity of this human consciousness.

Along with the release, Barnes and the rest of Of Montreal will be hitting the road in the comings months, allowing for some of interpretations and reactions to be made from a live perspective…

This was an absolutly trippy ass show. This was probably the most tame it got. There was guy on andrgynous human action, ballons with glitter, man/tiger on andrgynous human action, Kevin Barnes came out in a Hubba Bubba meets Freddy Mercury spandex unitard for the psudo-encore and there were giant Confetti “Christmas” Crakers shot by 2 androgynous humans in black spandex unitards on the shoulders of complete doubles only bigger. Then Wire and Mogwai came on and kinda ruined it. The Dodos were solid though.
