My Morning Jacket thinks about #6
Generally, when a band announces they’re in the preliminary stages of a new album, two types of reactions result. One is from the fanboys, who gobble up every little detail you get. The others is from the pessimist, who responds, “get back to me when there is actually a release date.”
But when it comes to news of a new My Morning Jacket album, most will stop to listen, regardless of the depth of the details. Besides, after 2008’s much-acclaimed Evil Urges and their epic performance at last month’s Bonnaroo, who hasn’t gotten caught up in the My Morning Jacket hoopla?
In a recent interview with BBC 6Music, frontman Jim James revealed that he has already started writing material for what will be the band’s sixth studio album, a project already several years in the making.
“I’m already writing songs for the new record and stuff,” [James] said. “The process is weird because whenever we make a record, the songs come from one or two years of life that you’ve lived.
“Then by the time you get to make that record you’re in that zone but when it comes out, it’s a year or two later. So, for me personally, I’m working on the next thing.”
James revelation comes in the wake of details that he is once again working with M. Ward and Conor Oberst, aka the “Monsters of Folk.” The trio, who toured together back in 2004, is reportedly working on a studio album.
No word on when either album will hit music shelves.
