The Flaming Lips cover The Who, work on new album
The Flaming Lips sure are busy folks these days. In addition to performing at next week’s VH1’s “Rock Honors” tribute to The Who (see video below), Wayne Coyne and company are also currently at work on a new album, an effort described in a recent interview with Billboard.com described as “something like if John Lennon got together with Miles Davis and they discovered computers.”
“Sometimes, there’s an element of song structure that me and [band member] Steven [Drozd] get really bored of,” [Coyne] continues. “But you can play certain things and the computer f*cks with them in a way where it’s like, ‘Oh, I didn’t think of that before.’ Even as we speak I get excited. I’m thinking, ‘F*ck! This is going to be cool!’”
But before you get too excited, the currently untitled followup to 2006’s At War with the Mystics lacks a timetable for its release. Still, between this and the upcoming physical release of Christmas on Mars, due out before year’s end according to Billboard, Lips fans will soon be overwhelmed with new material.
Until then, you can watch The Flaming Lips rehearse for next week’s much anticipated tribute performance…

Third: I love the Lips! Can’t wait till a new album and I can see um at Lolla again.
