Stop the Presses! The Strokes are having a meeting!
It’s gotten to the point that anytime The Strokes even discuss a meeting, it causes bloggers everywhere to stop what they’re doing and post on the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the band has finally started work on the much-anticipated followup to 2006’s First Impressions of Earth. One can only wonder what the blogosphere will look like when the New York natives officially enter the studio, or God forbid, when they finish…
Anyhow, on to our obligatory posting. So here it goes…
Guess what, everyone?!?! The Strokes, yes THE STROKES, are not only “excited” by the prospects of their fourth studio album, but will also meet in the near future to discuss it! While among other things, proclaiming his hatred of reading about the band in a recent interview with The Independent, guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr., who by the way, has a new solo album out, also revealed that a return may be close.
“I’d be very excited to see where things go. We’re all in different places now. So it would be exciting to see where we take the next album to. We’ve spoken and know we’re going to meet at some point. It’s not my choice. Everyone thinks it’s not me getting back because I’m making records, but it’s not.”
So there you go, folks. Don’t blame Albert for the band’s two-plus years without a new album. In fact, Hammond, Jr. even went as far to declare that The Strokes need something by next year.
“If we don’t make a Strokes record before [the end of 2009], people will think that’s the end of us. Nothing’s set, but we’re definitely figuring out something to do for 2009.”
In the meantime, we’ll just have to ease our restlessness with ¿Cómo Te Llama? and Julian Casablancas’ Converse collaboration…
