Willie, John, Dave, and Neil gear up for Farm Aid 2008

As has been the case for the last 22 years, Farm Aid will return this summer for another edition of the longest-running benefit concert in support family farming and organic agricultural initiatives. Aside from a new home, the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, Farm Aid 2008, scheduled to go down on September 20th, won’t feature many other changes this year around. Most importantly for fans, the usual cast of characters will once again offer their time and talents for the benefit.

Farm Aid co-founders Willie Nelson, [John] Mellencamp and Neil Young will headline the concert, along with board member Dave Matthews, who owns the Best of What’s Around farm near Scottsville, VA…

Mellencamp, who announced details of the event yesterday at a press confrence in Boston also revealed that  T-Bone Burnett, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are among some of the many other artists who may appear to fill what will be a “diverse lineup.”

“It’s about time we had it here in Massachusetts after 23 years,” Mellencamp told the Herald after the press event. “You check the stock market today? It’s not good. With the economy the way it is, Farm Aid is as important as it’s ever been to family farmers right here.”

Members of “The FarmYard” can purchase tickets begining Wednesday, July 16 at 11am EDT. Tickets to the general public will be available via ticketmaster.com begining July 28.
