The Strokes refuse to make things easy

The Strokes refuse to make things easy

Just when we thought The Strokes were finally getting ready to begin work on their much-awaited fourth studio album, comes news that not one, but two members of the New York based band are currently engaged in new music activities. While between Albert Hammond’s Jr.’s flourishing solo career and Julian Casablancas work with Pharrell Williams and Santogold, the term “side-project” is nothing new when it comes to the Strokes. However, with four of the band’s five members currently occupied in other ventures, it’s hard not to ask questions regarding the band’s future.

Anyhow, lets get onto the intrdouctions…

Little Joy is the name of drummer Fabrizio Moretti’s new side-project with girlfriend Binki Shapiro and ex-Los Hermano’s guitarist Rodrigo Amarante. According to the Rolling Stone, the trio will unleash their currently untitled debut, reportedly heavy in sounds of “Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vince Guaraldi and Sixties wall-of-sound girl groups” sometime this fall via Rough Trade Records.

Then we have Nickel Eye, the self-described new folk rock group of bassist Nikolai Fraiture. One look at the band’s myspace and the story littering the about section will likely cause a bit of head spinning, but as Pitchfork points out, the New York based project does note than an album entitled The Time of the Assassins will be released soon. Plus, the apperance of Regina Spektor and Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the friend’s list provides a hint or two as to who will be taking part in guest spots on the album.

Join us next time in “The Strokes: The World’s Most Indecisive Band,” for another post of more unnecessary excitement and premature album talk. Until then, this is Alex Young signing off.
