Trey Anastasio teams up with orchestra

Over the last couple months, Trey Anastasio has certainly given hints of a possible Phish reunion. From his cryptic comments at May’s Jammy Awards to the onstage collaboration with fellow bandmates Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman at Rothbury a few weeks back, the legendary frontman has all but confirmed a reunion is not only a distinct possibility, but perhaps imminent.

Still, Anastasio has to find something to hold him over until all the necessary kinks and relationships can be hammered out in order to make a reunion a go. That something is Time Turns Elastic, a collaboration with Orchestra Nashville Composer-in-Residence Don Hart.

Time Turns Elastic is the centerpiece of the writing Trey has been doing over the past 18 months while he’s been off the road. With long, orchestral passages intertwined with epic guitar lines and vocals, the piece is in the vein of such classic Anastasio compositions as “Divided Sky,” “Guyute” and “You Enjoy Myself.” For nearly a year, Hart, who also collaborated on Anastasio’s 2006 album, Bar 17, commuted between his home in Nashville to Saratoga, NY to work with Trey on Time Turns Elastic.

Anastasio, backed by Orchestra Nashville will premiere the composition at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium on September 27. Tickets to the event are available via his official website or ticketmaster.com.
