Dre is ready for “Detox”
It’s been nine years since we last really saw Dr. Dre, seven years if you count his acting career in movies The Wash and Training Day. Aside from releasing some high performance headphones (Beats, he calls them), Dre has been in the studio, channeling his inner Axl Rose, working on his long, long awaited follow up to 1999’s Chronic 2001. Despite past rumored release dates, 2008 seems really likely, especially if what the beat-making guru says rings true.
“I’m just now — over the last couple of months — starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” Dr. Dre said. “In a p
erfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”
“We have an entirely new thing going with the drums that’s incredible, and we’re still developing that,” Dre said. “I’m going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit. I’m going to stay in the studio and produce.”
One has to wonder what sounds Dre might put out. A lot has changed since 1999 and the world of rap and hip-hop has taken on a new face, with the legends being Nas and Jay-Z, and the rulers of the game being Lil’ Wayne and Kanye West. Even if most of those names drop rhymes on the upcoming record, is that enough to keep up the former N.W.A. members game? Come November or December, we’ll see.
“Forgot About Dre: Part Deux”, anyone?

Yeah, 10 years later Dr. Dre will still be talking about Detox. “no no guys…THIS time I’m serious.”
Lol we all know the beats for what was supposed to be Detox were all given to The Game for his Aftermath debut. Dre just needs to stop, this is getting ridiculous.
I’ll believe it when I hear it.
Just give the beats to The Game again. At least he is still relevant. Oh yeah…Dre doesn’t want anything to do with him any more.
My interest is somewhat there for this album, though. It’s mainly because it’s taken so long.
Mike, I’d like to hear your thoughts on where someone like Dre or Eminem would stand in hip hop today, where most artists in the genre are stadium sellers targeting different audiences and speaking about much different subjects.
Well I would definitely be excited for Detox when it came out. I’m just not going to get too excited right now because I’m not holding my breath on it ever coming out.
Weren’t you just bitching about gangsta rap earlier today? What gives?
The rap game is generally not kind to artists who disappear for nine years. That said, Dr. Dre didn’t exactly disappear. He has been producing the whole time…and Dre is a producer much more so than he is a rapper. At this point I don’t think either Dre or Eminem would have any problem selling out arenas across the country. But I don’t think either of them will regain their previous form in terms of recorded material.

I wasn’t “bitching.” I was making a fair comparison, as far as I see it. I’m a big fan of the genre, though more on the side of Public Enemy and early Wu-Tang Clan.
Interesting observations Mr. Mike.
