Virgin Mobile Festival has a winner, but still no schedule
The contest is over, fans have spoken, and the band selected with the honors of opening day two of the upcoming Virgin Mobile Festival?
Yes, the six-piece outfit hailing from Los Angeles are indeed the winners of the year’s “Book the Band,” beating out the likes of Automatic Loveletter, We Are Scientists, The Parlor Mob, and The Virgins (in that order) to take home the prestigious crown.
Shocked?
I think befuddled might be the better term to describe our reaction. Not only do we have trouble finding out just exactly who/what Hollywood Undead is, but apparently Virgin Mobile Festival, set to take place between August 9 and 10 in Baltimore Maryland, will be the their FIRST EVER SHOW.
Last.fm describes them like this…
Rising to prominence via MySpace, these six masked marauders stood at number one on the site’s music chart, leading to endless friend requests and plays. However, Hollywood Undead have got the gusto to be earth shattering far beyond cyberspace. They’re already knocking at your door, and they’re about to break it down.
…though we like Urban Dictionary’s definitions a bit better…
While the chosen winners will indeed be kicking off Sunday, from past experience, it’s a safe bet someone else will be taking the opposing stage shortly after Hollywood Undead get going. Unfortunately, we still don’t know who, as Virgin has yet to unveil its schedule for the weekend. Sure, most of us have seen the rumored one floating around the web, but until the word “official” appears above the list of set times, we wouldn’t be all that confident in planning when to make that escape for those Maryland Crab Cakes…

I read your blog from time to time and I own a similar one. I was just wondering if you get a ton of spam? If so how do you control it, any plugin or something you can suggest? I get so much it’s driving me crazy so any help is much appreciated.
As a musician, I wanted to show support for an “up and coming” band at the V-fest yesterday. Let me just say that I have never wanted my time back more than when these guys hit the stage. Not only were they overly offensive with lyrics that just strung explitives, but there was no musically redeming quality. The entire song was pre-recorded. There was a drummer that needed to play, but the guitar player dropped in and out as he felt necessary. Also, the “choruses” were going on without anyone singing. All I have to say is “COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!”
How about the fact that Hollywood Undead beat out any of those bands…after listening to one song, there is a damn good reason these guys have never played a show before.
It has to be false too cause where is Citizen Cope on the schedule? They made a fake schedule and forgot to put everyone in it
thats total bs they wont have the south stage close for NIN thats stupid, ive been to both v fests before this and they like to have something playing for every taste of music, they will not be forcing people to see NIN. Kanye will close south stage I think, in the dark…
also, the fact that hollywood undead somehow beat We Are Scientists is atrocious.
wouldn’t surprise me a bit if this was rigged.
i’m calling BS on that rumored schedule. Here is why:
- Wilco is playing longer than the Foos, and the Foos are headlining. Also, it came from a Wilco fansite apparently, so go figure.
- The dance tent makes no sense. 30 minutes between DJs? Last year, the dance tent schedule put no more than 10 minutes between acts, and DJ to DJ turnovers require no downtime whatsoever. Also, it says soulwax are getting 90 minutes, which is more than Underworld, who are again headlining the dance tent.
- There is no way Kanye would let play for an hour. Also, I believe it was mentioned in a newspaper article that he would be closing out the 2nd stage with Dylan going on before him (can’t confirm this though).
Basically, this is the “ideal” schedule of some fan who has no idea how dance music works.
I intentionally did not post it so it wouldn’t be misinterperted, but you can find what I’m talking about here…
