This May be Your Last Chance for Nat Geo Music TV
If you live in the United States and have not caught the wonderful Nat Geo Music, tonight (rather tomorrow morning) may be your last chance. Sick of MTV reality shows? Growing a little tired of seeing the same videos over and over on Fuse? Join the club, open your mind and prepare for a lesson in what “music television” could be like if the focus was still on the music.
For the past month, the National Geographic Channel (NGC) has featured late night blocks of music videos from around the world from 3 am to 6 am EST / 12 am to 3 am PST. The featured videos have taken the late night viewers on virtual journeys around the world. Tune in tonight (or set your DVRs) to catch an eclectic mix of everything from international classics to cutting-edge up-and-comers. Each block consists of three one-hour shows compiling not just music videos, but also concerts, interviews and short documentaries focusing on “stories that make music a vehicle for a better understanding and appreciation of today’s global community.”
If you like what you see, do us all a favor and petition NGC to make this a permanent mainstay. Our fortunate European and Latin American friends currently have access to this programming 24/7 on Nat Geo Music TV, satellite music video channel.
According to the Nat Geo World Music website, programs within the blocs include:
PLACE JAM – focusing on music from a specific country
WE LOVE… – dedicated to artists and genres that we love (e.g. We Love Reggae, We Love Caetano Veloso)
MUSIC NOMAD – programming connecting the spirit of traveling to music
GEO SESSIONS – intimate acoustic performances and interviews with top musicians including Ben Harper, K’naan, Michael Franti and Aterciopelados
FUSION – music videos of all genres from around the globe
The shows feature many other notable appearances by artists that we love here at Consequence of Sound, including Rodrigo y Gabriela, Gogol Bordello and Manu Chao. I strongly encourage you to check it out tonight. Enjoy!
