Ash boycott releasing conventional albums
The Northern Irish trio known as Ash, recently stated via NME, that conventional album making is no longer in the cards. Frontman Tim Wheeler discussed his recent take on the world of music and the band’s decision not to release any more albums, at least not conventionally:
“We’ve got one album worth so far but we want to get a double album worth of stuff.
“I think it’s going to be fun for our fans, getting something quite regularly from us instead of getting an album every three years. I think it’s going to be really cool.”
The band’s last release, 2007’sTwilight Of The Innocents garnered some attention, hinting that the band would eventually call it a day. However, that’s not the case. Given the more recent unconventional releases this year (Paul Westerberg, Radiohead, NIN to name a few), comparisons were bound to occur :
“We knew what we said was quite shocking but we didn’t think it would create waves that big,” he said. “Loads of people have copied us since, a lot of bands are saying they’re going to do the same thing so it’s been inspirational for a lot of people already.”
Could this be the future for all of music? Maybe so. For now, it seems to be an intelligent approach to still get music across.
