BK reveals more details on new EP, album
Due to the fact that yours truly is easily one of the biggest Ben Kweller fans around, readers of Consequence of Sound have been greeted by details relating to the Texas native’s upcoming fourth studio album, Changing Horses, probably before BK himself even knew about it.
Of course, we kid, but it does indeed feel like we’ve been talking about the followup to his 2006 self-titled effort for some time. In fact, since last September to be exact. Between then and now, BK has supplied us with a few tastes, a title - Changing Horses, a delay of three months, and news of both an EP and tour dates.
And now, we’re finally start to get a bit of specifics. Posting on his website this past Friday, Kweller revealed
that Changing Horses will likely see light in the last week of January via the fine folks at ATO Records. He went on to share a few more personal comments regarding the album on his myspace:
It’s an album i’ve wanted to make for years just never got around to it. I grew up in a small east-Texas town called Greenville where my whole childhood was spent playing in creeks, bass fishing, shooting BB guns, thinking about girls and listening to Garth. After the Beatles and before Nirvana - country music was the soundtrack to my life. It’s definitely shaped who I am as an artist. My albums which are pretty diverse usually have one or two cuts on them that are rootsy-americana-folkie-whatever ya wanna call it. This album just focuses in on that one side of me, and I love that cuz it’s got this really consistant vibe but the stories are all over the place. I think my fans will really feel this album. Especially the ones who love my songs “Lizzy”, “In Other Words”, “Family Tree”, “Living Life” - those type sounds.
But you won’t have to wait until January to hear a few of the mastered sounds from Changing Horses. According to Kweller, his upcoming How Ya Lookin’ Southbound? Comein… EP will not only feature “some out-takes, demos, and random crazy eyes,” but “three cuts from ‘Horses’ so you can all get a preview from of what I have in store for ‘09.” As noted, the EP will be available for a limited time only at any of BK’s upcoming tour stops.
