Lollapalooza starts in five days and we have lots of info!

Lollapalooza starts in five days and we have lots of info!

Five days from today, Lollapalooza 2008 will officially be under way.

We’ll just let you take those words in for a few seconds.

Five days.

It seems like just yesterday that we were scrambling to find rumors for this year’s lineup. And now, this time Friday, we’ll be sitting down to the styles and sounds of Radiohead, The Raconteurs, and other day one notables. Pretty incredible!

But that doesn’t mean our work is anywhere close to being done. In fact, we’re just getting started. In preparation of the festival, we figured there is no better time than now to provide a bit of a recap of all the important details, whether your an attendee or not.

Attendees:

Festival Outlook = Lineup updates + Aftershow info!

As always, be sure to check out our Lollapalooza outlook page throughout the week for any updates to this year’s lineup. For example, say Perry decides to pull a Jane’s Addiction reunion and/or cancels his scheduled DJ appearance. You’ll be the first to know!

Plus you’ll get the scoop on all the aftershows, whether official or not. Oh and speaking of which, the newest one to our list? The fine folks at Spin Magazine are hosting a party on Friday night at the Dell Lounge. The Gutter Twins and Does It Offend You, Yeah? are among the acts scheduled to perform. RSVPs are needed!

Don’t have tickets…yet?

No worries, three-day passes are still available via Lollapalooza.com. Hoping to save a buck or two? Your best bet is heading over to Lolla’s board or Craigslist and find a friend…

Why are schedules so tough!?!?!

Still having trouble finalizing your schedule? We feel you, especially with tough conflicts like Malkmus vs. The Raconteurs and Girl Talk vs. The National.

Thankfully, in addition to Lollapalooza’s custom scheduler and artist discovery pages, a few fine folks are offering some additional help. Radio Free Chicago has a number of “Lolla Previews,” while ultra8201 offers “Lolla Spotlights.” Oh yeah, and then there is all of our previous coverage.

Stay at the Hard Rock, see exclusive aftershows:

By now, you should have all your travel arrangements in order. But if you still need a place to stay and are willing to shell out a few extra bucks, reservations at Chicago’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino come with an added bonus.

Hard Rock’s Music Lounge will feature exclusive late night performances from the likes of DJ Mom Jeans (Danny Masterson), Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, DJ Mark Ronson, DJ Samantha Ronson, Spank Rock, DJ AM, and Chromeo.

VIP packages are still available.

2008 Map:

Look! A map!

Where do I pick up my TIXS?

A very good and important question. You can pick up your wristbands begining today at Lollapalooza’s box office on Columbus - between Congress and Balbo, across the street from Grant Park. The box office will be open from Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm - 8:00pm. Once the festival gets started, you’ll be able to pick them up at Grant Park. More info here and here.

Mindfield:

While this year’s Mindfield won’t be home to the DJ stage we were all hoping for, it will again serve as a useful source for much needed information. Just text “LOLLA” to 345345 and you’ll receive:

  • Setlists
  • Photos
  • Text alerts
  • Scavenger hunt updates

Perry’s 10 Tips:

To summarize:

  1. Heat strokes are not cool, bring water
  2. Programs are FREE
  3. Wear comfy clothes
  4. Wristbands will be cloth
  5. Ride the CTA
  6. Get drunk at the Biergarten, rave at Perry’s DJ stage
  7. Fill your stomach with one of Lolla’s many vendors
  8. Don’t lose your stuff. If you do, visit the lost and found
  9. Use the Mindfield
  10. Don’t break the rules…or Perry will be angry.

Say Hi:

There will be tons of folks roaming around Grant Park this weekend so the likelihood of running into any one particular person is pretty rare. Regardless, if you see any of us, be sure to say hello!

Other folks you might want to look out for? Him and him.

Non-Attendees

AT&T Blueroom:

Despite last year’s controveries, the AT&T Blueroom will indeed return this year to stream live webcast of performances. While this year’s schedule has yet to be unveiled, expect Bloc Party, G Love and Special Sauce, Flogging Molly, Toadies, Gogol Bordello as some of the acts scheduled to make an appearance.

FUSE.tv:

Music network Fuse will also broadcast a number of this year’s performances. In fact, the television channel is the official broadcast partner of Lollapalooza 2008. Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, Lupe Fiasco, Gnarls Barkley, Brand New and Duffy are among the acts billed to appear during the broadcast.

Lollapalooza Base Station:

With the help of kyte.tv, Lollapalooza has launched its “Channel 1 Base Station” as a news source for “artist updates, backstage video, festival staff scoop, and interviews with your favorite bands.”

Everyone

To say this is our big event of the summer would be an understatement. After all, nearly half of our staff will be live and on site this weekend. Whether you’re an attendee or not, be sure to check back to Consequence of Sound all weekend long and the days following the festival for updates, interviews, recaps and everything else Lollapalooza 2008!

Spread the word, tell your friends, families, pets, anyone you know! This will be something not to be missed. Worried about missing anything? You could, of course, SUBSCRIBE!
