Virgin Mobile unveils its version of the schedule

Virgin Mobile unveils its version of the schedule

Remember that rumored schedule we mentioned - and debated? As expected, thanks to the newly unveiled official schedule for the 2008 Virgin Mobile Festival, it proved to be a fake.

So what’s the deal with the official one? Well, “Virginers” are now faced with the prospects of choosing between Foo Fighters and Underworld on Saturday (oh yeah, and Jack Johnson too), while Nine Inch Nails, Mr. Kanye West, and Armin Van Buuren hold down the headlining spots on Sunday.

Other noteworthy conflicts? Chuck Berry vs. Wilco? OUCH! Bob Dylan vs. Stone Temple Pilots vs. Moby is also one that will surely be leaving many scratching their heads.

I’d also like to point out than it can’t get any more indie than it is on the North Stage on Saturday. Alright, enough talking, time for you to check out the schedule for yourself…

Saturday, August 9th:

Sunday, August 10th:

Tickets are still available via ticketmaster.com.

  1. i really should have been there… i love gogol bordello!

  2. haha you dont know the bro population around baltimore city, i wouldnt be surprised to see more at jack johnson.

  3. NIN will be the better pick over Kanye.

Also, Foo on the South Stage over Jack Johnson? That is an insult. Dave Grohl is a local pretty much and putting him on the smaller concrete stage is a mistake, they will for sure draw a larger crowd.

  4. Is NIN a good live show?

  5. Since I’m guessing that STP will outdraw Dylan by a pretty wide margin, I’m going to try to catch the 1st 1/2 hour of STP then go to Dylan. I did the same thing for RHCP vs Flaming Lips at Virgin 2 years ago and it worked out pretty well.

  6. STP vs Dylan? hmmmmmm what is everyone choosing there?
I hope STP is on time

  7. I went last year–I could have sworn that the Police played for like 2 hours or more, playing past 10. I remember on sunday, the pumpkins ended right at 10 and didn’t even plan an encore (I was pissed). Has anyone ever seen NIN live? I am thinking of checking them out for a few minutes before kanye.

I am so sorry that i am going to have to choose Foos over jack but I saw Foo live this year and they were incredible-a massive outdoor show is going to be great and more energy than Jack even though I love him.

Are both stages going to be the same size this year? I think the Foos should draw a bigger crowd than jack also.

  8. It was definitely over by 10. Modest Mouse ended at the same time and it was a nightmare having everyone leave at the same time.

  9. I don’t think it was over by 10 last year…I thought the Police played later than that. Maybe it just took so long to get out of the parking lot I’m getting confused.
Wouldn’t count on Chuck Berry showing up if you’ve read the latest news on him….and having seen Kanye’s tour this summer…he’s definitely a better show than 9inch nails
After going to this the past 2 years VIP is def the way to go.

  10. north stage = main stage on field
south stage = other stage on concrete

and 10 PM is the noise curfew. They will probably be fairly strict on it.

  11. Which stage was on the asphault and which was the main on the field?

  12. It’s pretty strict. Maybe 10 min over, but it’s usually over by 10.

  13. Yeah, but last year they didn’t have Scott Weiland vs Kanye West in the battle of who can delay their stage more. Does anyone know if 10PM is a set curfew time or can they go later if they need to?

  14. Last year at Virgin they were pretty good about starting on time. I was impressed. And the stages are really close together, maybe 5 minutes walk max. I was upset about everything I would have to miss, but Virgin is awesome for sampling a little bit of everything.

  15. This schedule sucks for Bob Dylan. Lil’ Wayne would have been a more logical counter-programming to STP and a better lead in to Kanye. A lot of people who would be watching Dylan in another slot will be at STP. Of the people that do show up for Dylan, a good chunk will be will be impatiently waiting for Kanye.

  16. about as wilco opening for jack johnson. or lil wayne in the middle of the day.

  17. BRMC gets a 45-minute opening set? How lame is that?

  18. let me get this straight bob dylan is opening up for kanye west? WTF? Who planned this ipod shuffle?!?

  19. 2 hours of Underworld and NIN!! yeeeeeeeeees
