The Killers eye November release? Really?

The Killers eye November release? Really?

We haven’t really heard much of Brandon Flowers and his dance-rock unit, The Killers, this year. Aside from some festival appearances, the Las Vegas natives have been relatively quiet… and with good reason. Sources indicate that the band is waist deep in recording, with a certain release sketched in for this November. Could this be true? Possibly.

[A]ccording to a pair of sources with the band’s label, Island Records, who told MTV News that Brandon Flowers and company are currently holed up in their brand-new Las Vegas studio (not the plush Studio at the Palms, where they recorded Sam’s), putting the finishing touches on the as-yet-untitled album.

The sources added that Stuart Price — a.k.a. Jacques Lu Cont/ Madonna’s musical cohort/ the guy who did that really excellent remix of the Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” — is producing the disc, something that bassist Mark Stoermer alluded to last year when talking to MTV News about the album, which was in its fledgling stages.

Just for reference, The Killers last released Sawdust (2007), a collection of b-sides which also included a duet with Lou Reed. Their last studio release, Sam’s Town (2006), drew some controversy from Flowers (greatest album in 20 years ring a bell?) and criticism from fan’s who felt the band shied away from their traditional sound. Well, if what bassist Matt Stoermer says rings true, those outraged fanatics should be cooling off soon…

“We’ve got some new songs, but there’s a long way to go before they’re ready for an album,” Stoermer said at the time. “So far, they’re different than Sam’s Town, but nothing that we write surprises me. Some are a bit stripped down for us — whatever that means. Some have the vibe of [Jacques Lu Cont's] ‘Thin White Duke Remix’ of ‘Mr. Brightside.’ We talk about what we want for the album, but inevitably, it always gets away from us.”

However, that’s not all. Flowers is even hinting at some Bowie action this time around, specifically the Aladdin Sane-era. Hey, as long as they put away their Springsteen jackets. That stuff’s getting old. Anyhow, whatever the case may be, these boys will have fans coming back in troughs and we’re anticipating something big.

Though, don’t take our word for it.
