The first annual Vineland Music Festival ended before it ever got started. After initially being postponed, the folks behind the planned New Jersey based festival have chosen to pull the plug forever. In an interview with The Chicago Tribune, C3 Presents’ owner Charlie Jones went as far to proclaim “Vineland is dead,” going on to explain…

“That particular part of the country got too popular too fast; there are too many festivals in close proximity,” he says, citing the emergence of the All Points West festival in northern New Jersey.

Vineland’s short-lived life began last December once details emerged that C3 Presents, the folks behind Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, were looking to create an east coast based music festival. Originally, Philadelphia was the target, but after some complications, Vineland, New Jersey was instead chosen as the location.

From the start, things never appeared right. While Rage Against the Machine was rumored as the supposed headliner, most if not all details pertaining to Vineland were kept very quiet. By January, a group opposing Vineland surfaced, claiming that the proposed festival would interrupt community atmosphere. Eventually a planning committe got involved, and then All Points West, leaving the future of the event very much in doubt. Within two weeks, a decision was made and the Vineland Music Festival was canceled for 2008. A 2009 possibility was left open, but as we discovered today, that won’t be happening.
