Velvet Revolver finds a new frontman?
For those that are interested, Velvet Revolver might be back and running. If you recall, Scott Weiland left the “supergroup” months back, to tour with his former grunge band, Stone Temple Pilots. Left stranded, the remaining members tended to their own business as summer progressed, with the promise to find a new singer. That day should be pretty soon, at least if Entertainment Weekly has any truth to it’s word.
EW.com has learned that Royston Langdon —frontman for Spacehog (who had a 1995 hit with “In the Meantime” ) and estranged husband of Liv Tyler — is in the running for the gig after several successful jam sessions in Los Angeles. “They all got along great,” says an insider. “It was really a refreshing change for the band.” Velvet Revolver’s management couldn’t confirm that an offer had been made, and would only say that they’re still auditioning prospective singers. But an RCA source says that Langdon is “definitely in the mix.”

This is a downer for those looking forward to a possible Guns n’ Roses reunion. Sorry folks, looks like Slash & Co. managed to pull away another “winner” to lead their band. To be honest, Spacehog’s hit single “In the Meantime” is probably better than anything off of Contraband or Libertad, so to join would be almost a disservice to his own name. Then again, money talks…

That whole Spacehog album is pretty good. Anyone know what Langdon has been up to since Spacehog? I’m curious how he would sound with the band live since the music of VR is just so different (though his voice is not that far from Weiland’s).
I’m assuming those “jam sessions” were behind closed doors?
Being a huge Spacehog fan, I think Royston is a one of the great and underrated vocalists of the 90s. “In the Meantime” is an amazing fucking song, and I’m really curious to hear what Royston and the Velvet Revolver guys could come up with. I think he’s be an amazing choice to replace Weiland.
