Mastodon eye 2009 follow up to Blood Mountain

Just like Richmond, Virginia’s very own Lamb Of God, Atlanta’s blessed sons of heavy metal glory, Mastodon recently announced that they will release their fourth album in 2009.  While the title hasn’t been released yet, this follows up 2006’s critically acclaimed Blood Mountain will be produced by mega rock producer Brendan O’Brien:

We finished the bulk of it. All of the basic tracks are done. We finished them on the Monday before we flew out to Seattle to start this tour. We go home on August 23rd. Then we have 10 days booked in the studio to touch up things, add any bells and whistles, take away anything we don’t want, mix it and then figure out the sequencing. We have until Labor Day to finish it. We’re hoping that it comes out in January. It should see light at the beginning of 2009.

Much like their previous albums, Mastodon’s newest cuts of metal mastery will focus lyrically on Czarist Russia. Definitely pre-order this one quickly, as it will certainly sell like hot cakes.

Mastodon are currently on the Mayhem tour with Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce and others.
