Lolla Live: Saturday afternoon

Lolla Live: Saturday afternoon

Two things you need to know about day two of Lollapalooza 2008. One, with tempatures only peaking to  about 80 degrees, the weather is adding to the already refreshing feel being offered in Grant Park. There are more people up and about today, resulting in some more crowded stages. In fact, British rockers Foals played to as many people on the Citi Stage as the Gutter Twins did on the AT&T main stage.

Second, while we still haven’t heard anything in regards to Nine Inch Nails, we do now officially know who will be Perry Farrell’s special guest when he DJs later today on the stage that is his namesake. Formers Guns ‘n Roses/current Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash will be joining the Lollapalooza curator at some point during his 90 minute set.

Getting back to the Gutter Twins, the Los Angeles based duo pulled out some Twilight Singers’ material, namely “Bonnie Brae”. As we are typing, MGMT is performing in the background. Early impressions seem mixed as their performance is enthusiastic, but also overpowering in terms of sound.

Time to head off to Perry and Slash, then the much-annticipated sets by Okkervil River and Broken Social Scene. Of course, both Rage Against the Machine and Wilco will be closing out the evening on opposing stages.

Speaking of Okkervil River, check back to Consequence of Sound later today for our interview with Will Sheff, the band’s frontman. We also chatted with members of Manchester Orchestra and Sofia Talvik today.

More as it comes…
