The Hottest Summertime Accessory Is As Cool As Ice
Let’s play a word association game. When you hear the words “apple” and “ego”, what comes to mind?
My first instinct would be the new iPhone. As in, any tech geek with a new Apple iPhone has gotten quite the ego boost from all the oohing and ahhing over it lately. (Disclosure: I have nothing against the iPhone or its users. I’m just jealous because I want one.)
But there’s another association that I find interesting. EGO is a new product line of waterproof cases/stereos by Atlantic Inc. designed to protect your Apple iPod during the wettest of summertime activities. There are four different stereo sizes; all of them house an iPod Nano 1G or 2G in a water-tight, polycarbonate, shatter-proof case. The prices range from $59.99 for the smallest speaker, the Icebar, to $129.99 for Ice, the largest case with 30 hours of playtime, a shoulder strap and a carry bag.
So now, when that dude next to you on the beach thinks he’s being oh-so-subtly cool by whipping out his iPhone every two minutes to check some piece of information on the Internet that’s obviously vital to lying on a towel in the sun, you can one up him. Just pull out your waterproof speaker system and loudly invite your friends to meet you out on the sandbar for some tunes and refreshment. How’s that for tech envy?

Diana did you ever use this product? There is no information offered in this article that I couldnt find in 5 seconds on their website. If discussing a new product it might be nice to give some hands on impressions, not just aspects that can be taken off the products website, before touting said product as “the hottest summertime accessory.” I mean, the waterproof housing can be cool, but if the speakers sound like garbage its a waste to buy, so it would be good to know more about the product and how it Sounds, instead of just knowing how it stores your iPod.
I do have to say though, the article was really nicely written. Youd make a great salesperson for them.
Hey Jake, I have not used this product. This wasn’t actually intended to be a product review, just a short news item about a new product I saw online that I thought would be cool to throw up here in case anyone is interested in checking it out. Personally, I think something like this could be really useful, especially if you spend time on the beach or a boat.
As far as the headline, it was just a play on the “ice” name of the product, not an actual declaration that this is hands-down the best summertime product.
I’m interested in finding out about the sound quality too. While I don’t have the money to go out and buy this right away, I’d like to hear from anyone who does have it to see what their impressions are.
