Sony preps new live Clash album, DVD
It isn’t often we get to post news about The Clash, aside from the occasional memories and tributes, but thanks to Sony BMG’s plans to release a new works in the coming months, the English natives are again making headlines.
On October 6, Sony will unveil Live at Shea Stadium, an album composed of recorded material from the band’s memorable performances at the New York City stadium. As you may or may not know, serving as an opener on The Who’s North American tour, The Clash’s performances at the New York Mets’ home stadium on October 12 and 13, 1982, were seen by many as the pinnacle of the band’s success. For years, footage has been floating around, appearing everywhere from Julien Temple’s recently released documentary, Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, to youtube. However, this is the first time the entire performance will be released in its entirety.
That same day will also mark the UK release of The Clash Live: Revolution Rock, a new DVD documentary
about the band. Originally debuted on PBS and currently available in the U.S., the Don Letts directed film “follows the live transformation of the band, incorporating footage from all phases of the Clash’s meteoric career, beginning with live-in-the-studio clips and climaxing with a blow-out performance at New York’s Shea Stadium in 1982.”
Still can’t get enough Clash? Thankfully, the band itself, minus of course, the great Joe Strummer, will apparently be publishing a new book in the coming months as well. Details remain a bit sketchy, but you can read about it here.
