Chinese Democracy: Coming soon to a Walmart store near you?
On the same day that yet another supposed track from Chinese Democracy hit the web comes news that Guns N’ Roses are reportedly in negotiations with a number of retail outlets over a possible exclusive release of the band’s long awaited album.
In an article published today on Billboard.com, Ed Christman reports that Axl Rose and company are currently discussing the prospects of releasing the sixth studio album now 14-years-in-the-making, exclusively through the highest bidder…
But some concrete signs are finally emerging that the album’s release could be imminent. That’s because, according to sources, negotiations are underway for “Chinese Democracy” to come out as an exclusive at one of the big boxes — either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.
Negotiations are also ongoing to have conventional record company distribution, another source says.
The concept of exclusive releases in nothing new for either outlet, particuarly Walmart. In late 2007, the Eagles released a special edition of Long Road out of Eden through the retail chain, while it was recently revealed that AC/DC’s upcoming 15th studio album will take the Walmart disctrubtion route as well.
However, perhaps the biggest thing taken from the piece of news, and the recent announcement that a track from the album will be appearing on Rock Band II, is the fact that Chinese Democracy does appear to be indeed done. Sure, Axl proclaimed the project finished earlier this year, but at the time, did anyone honestly believe it?
Can we give up on this???
