NIN to HBO: A Year Zero series?
When it comes to television, it doesn’t get much better than HBO, even if they say it’s otherwise (e.g. “It’s not TV, it’s HBO). Shows like Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm light up the year with new seasons, and it doesn’t hurt that the network is responsible for, well, The f’n Sopranos. Having said that, the prospect of Trent Reznor (of NIN) joining the likes of Jeremy Piven and James Gandolfini, well, seems odd.
But not impossible. Recently, the industrial frontman spoke with the Los Angeles Times about his possible deal with the cable network, which includes developing a series out of last year’s concept album, Year Zero. If his excitement is any indication, then this show should, by all means, be greenlit already.
“It’s the most exciting thing on the horizon, it’s the thing that when I wake up in the morning it makes me say, ‘God it would be cool if that happened,” Reznor told me this week while sitting backstage before a Nails concert in Toronto. “This is my grand ambition. Will it happen? I don’t know. It was fun sitting and telling [the HBO] guys and watching them shake their head and having writers on board and producers that are in to it. It’s been a fun thing.”
“I just pitched it to HBO two weeks ago in L.A. It went great. Ideally, we’re trying to get them to do a two-year limited series. I prefer that over a film. We would have a second ARG tying into the second album and ties into the series and they all happen together with a budget needed to pull that all off. There would be a tour down the road. The record completes the story, the ending that no one knows. I know what happens. I knew when I started it. And it’s not what people think. “

Conceptually, everyone knows that Reznor is the king. He’s pushed the envelope with music videos, he’s broken the barriers with the “concept album”, and he’s created a whole new way for releasing new music. But really? An HBO series? This sounds almost too good to be true. According to the article, and Reznor, the whole project is still in the cards but let’s cross our fingers for the guy.
My only question, would each episode be considered a separate Halo?

i would subscribe to hbo solely for this.
I REALLY hope this happens.
There are alot of nin fans riding on this train and i (being one of them) are in complete awe and excitment of this possibility becoming a reality.
Come on HBO, do this for the NIN Fans, hell, you’ve got an audience waiting…
…you didnt with Lost…did you?
I remember reading about this when I did my article a few months ago on Reznor parting ways with Interscope.
Finally, some more news on the topic…and a very interesting question posed at the end.
Halos…I wonder…
