Arctic Monkeys tap Josh Homme for new album

Arctic Monkeys tap Josh Homme for new album

Based on the band’s track record, it would probably be a safe to say that the Arctic Monkeys will release their third studio album in the very near future. In fact, while the English natives may not be able to continue the trend of delivering a new album every year (see: 2006’s Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and 2007’s Favourite Worst Nightmare), we do know that Alex Turner and company have indeed started work on album #3.

We also now know who will be involved in the behind-the-scenes work of the upcoming effort. In an interview with NME, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme revealed that he will be take part in the production of the Arctic Monkey’s new material. In fact, the outfit will travel to Homme’s personal studio, the Rancho De La Luna, in Joshua Tree, California.

“I think it’s going to work out great…They want to submerge themselves in a place that’s the opposite of where they’re from and what they’re used to.

” think we’re just going to start by doing a couple of tracks. No pressure. The goal is to make something that they dig so much that everyone else can too.”

Homme has previously worked with the likes of Mark Lanegan and PJ Harvey, but as The Guardian pointed out, the collaboration were part of the Desert Sessions series. Homme’s work with the Monkeys will be solely for the purpose of their upcoming album.

However, Homme was clear to point out that the Arctic Monkeys sessions won’t fall under that banner and they wouldn’t be enlisting any other musicians: “Being in a band is about betting on yourself and believing in yourself and chasing your passion for music,” Homme explained.

“And I don’t think they have any problem doing that. I don’t think there’s any reason to bring anyone else in. I think they just want to experience something that’s opposite to what they’re used to over here [in the UK] and it’s a good place to go to - Joshua Tree and make some music for the sake of making music.

No word on if longtime producer Jame Ford, who was originally slated to be involved in the upcoming record, is being replaced by Homme.

In March, fans got a taste of some new Arcitc Monkeys demoes, which were speculated to be from early sessions for the third album.

  3. [...] (Vía: Consequence of Sound) [...]
