Trail of Dead is back with album and EP

Though it seems like forever since the release of 2006’s So Divided, Texas rockers … And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead are indeed finishing up their currently untitled sixth studio album. Scheduled for release in January via Richter Scale, the record will be preceded in October by an EP entitled Festival Time, which among other things, will feature a cover of the Replacements’ “Within Your Reach”. Not a world away from the current state of Sonic Youth’s part with Geffen, both releases will mark Trail of Dead’s freedom from Interscope, a fact that members Conrad Keely and Jason Reece recently told Billboard, they couldn’t be more thrilled over.

In fact, Keely says he doesn’t consider the band’s major-label swansong, 2006’s “So Divided,” to be a proper Trail Of Dead album. “It was almost like an exercise in different pastiches,” he says. “We allowed ourselves to be really free with the material. We didn’t say no to any ideas. For it being that kind of record, it exceeded my expectations. But it wasn’t in the tradition of our making of records, where we have a concept and we’re going to be really ambitious with it. On the last two albums, we were really meticulous recording to click-tracks and doing overdubs,” Keely says. “This time, we threw all that out. We learned the songs and all tracked live.”

The new material is said to have a much harder feel than their past two Interscope released efforts, but will probably maintain the epic feel of Worlds Apart. Currently, the six-piece outfit has a few upcoming dates scheduled, including a stop at its home state’s Fun Fun Fun Fest. A full-fledged tour has yet to be planned, and probably will not come until early next year.

What’s more, just yesterday, Keely and Reece gave fans an early taste of what to expect with a performance at New York’s Santos’ Party House - the first time in ten years the two performed solely as a duo.

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead 2008 Tour Dates:
09/21 - Monticello, NY @ ATP New York
11/08-09 - Austin, TX @ Fun Fun Fun Fest
