Watch: Kanye’s “Good Morning”

Watch: Kanye’s “Good Morning”

Next month, it’ll be a year since Kanye West battled it out with rapper 50 Cent for the “top spot” on the charts. If you recall, 50 Cent proclaimed he’d quit the rapping business if his record, Curtis, didn’t peak over the Chicago rapper’s third album, Graduation. It was a good publicity stunt, which sent both of their albums to the top (West won in the US, 50 topped in Irish and Swiss charts), but nonetheless, produced little to no change. 50 Cent is still rapping and West is still promoting Graduation.

Between the variants for “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Flashing Lights”, there has been a lot of creative influence involved in plugging West’s record. Then again, you can’t blame any director for wanting a taste of the material. After all, each song on the record is worthy of a video (with the exception of “Drunk and Hot Girls”), and if it has an ounce of West’s attention, it’s bound to look flashy and fun.

No exception with “Good Morning”, the latest of the Graduation videos. With stunning animation that derives itself from the album’s artwork, the mellow beat resonates well with the storyline. The video follows around the Kanye bear, who wanders about Universe City on a tedious morning. Of course, it wouldn’t be interesting if things didn’t go awry. As with any of West’s projects, there are loads of references, from the trains looking like Chicago’s El to his fascination with a certain infamous time machine (e.g. the Delorean).

Overall, there hasn’t been a video off this record that disappoints, and this one doesn’t break the trend, either.
