Arcade Fire members collaborate, think documentary?
With Arcade Fire well into its self-imposed hiatus, we haven’t heard much from the Win Butler crew in recent months. Well, unless you count a small support gig for Barack Obama and a rumored soundtrack that brought a whole lot of unneeded hoopla.
At least one participant of the Canadian based outfit is using the extra time to create some new music. Colin Stetson, the touring saxphonist for Arcade Fire, has teamed up with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ drummer Brian Chase, Balkan Beat Box’s guitarist Jeremiah Lockwood, and Stuart Bogie and Jordan McLean of Antibalas to form The Sway Machinery. The supergroup plans to release its debut, self-titled EP on September 16th, complete with what Spin Magazine calls a mix of “eclectic afro-beat, blues, and Jewish-cantorial” sounds.
Drummer Jeremy Gara has also been seen collaborating with a non-AF musician in recent months as well. While no official release is expected, Gara has been popping up with Kathleen Edwards at a few shopping outlets and concerts in Europe over the summer.
For folks looking something a bit more Arcade Fire related, then the rumors now floating around the Us Kids Know fan forums will most likely be welcomed with open arms. A number of forum members have pointed out some recent hints (phone calls, myspace messages) that lead them to believe that a film documenting Neon Bible could be in the works. But before you get too excited, do keep in mind that misinterperted rumors were the basis for the fictional soundtrack excitement.
Regardless, we’ll keep you updated…
