Australia won’t offer Great Escape in 2008

Australia’s Great Escape Music Festival, originally scheduled to take place later this year between October 4 and 5 in Sydney, appears to be the latest victim donning the cancellation title. Despite offering the likes of Conor Oberst, We Are Scientists, The New Pornographers, and Supergrass among a lineup of nearly 50 names, the third annual edition of the festival has been scrapped due to poor sales.

Unexpectedly low ticket sales have left festival organisers with no option but to cancel the event. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those people that have made the festival such a success in previous years. We’d also like to whole heartedly apologies to the bands, artists, agents, managers, suppliers, sponsors, media supporters and festival goers that have been let down by our decision. We thank you in advance for your understanding.

Refunds are available at points of purchase. Furthemore, a number of the scheduled acts will still perform “sideshows” at venues in and around Sydney during the week of October 4th.
