David Bowie gets auctioned, covered

Lots is going on in the world of David Bowie these days. Only this time around, the 61-year-old English native didn’t even have to raise a figure to make headlines. No in fact, it’s Bowie’s previously recorded material that is now earning buzz.

Yesterday, a rare and relatively unheard song, entitled “Mocking Bird”, was included with 5,000 other recordings at “It’s More Than Rock’n'Roll” auction in London. The track, which was part of English record producer Joe Meek’s personal collection, is reportedly a rare recording of Bowie’s first band The Konrads from the early 1960s. While personal ownership went to the highest bidder, a sample of the track is currently available online via Last.FM.

A Bowie related song that will be more readily available, especially if you own a television, is now available compliments of Cat Power. In Chan Marshall’s latest covered endeavor, the Atlanta native has recorded a rendition of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” for upcoming Lincoln MKS’ commercial spots. Check out the video below…

For those looking for some more original material, Bowie and EMI will be releasing a standard jewel case version of the recently released, David Bowie - Live Santa Monica ‘72, on October 13th
