Darren Aronofsky film to feature The Boss
Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky hasn’t really been heard from since 2006’s near flop The Fountain. But according to his very own blog, the director is nearing a return with a new film entitled The Wrestler and, in the style of Natalie Portman, the project will make use of some neat tunes, importantly one new original from Bruce Springsteen.
i wanted to just share with you all the other music news i talked about in the past post. bruce springsteen wrote a beautiful original song for the closing the film. called THE WRESTLER it is a wonderful acoustic piece. makes me choke up every time i hear it. he really captured the spirit of the film and mickey’s character in the piece.
The only thing apparently holding up the film’s release is the Boss himself. Aronofsky is still waiting for Springsteen to officially finish the track.
According to The Playlist, the rest of the soundtrack seems to be more hair-metal inclined, with songs from
Def Leppard, Cinderella, Great White, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe. Luckily for us, however, Aranofsky will continue work with composer Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) for the film’s score.
As far as the story goes, according to the New York Film Festival Website via Pitchfork, The Wrestler centers around Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson, a longtime wrestler, played by Mickey Rourke, “who now ekes out a living performing for diehard wrestling fans in small-town venues throughout New Jersey. A heart attack forces him to reconsider his life, but his attempts to reconnect with his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and start a relationship with stripper Pam (Marisa Tomei) cannot outshine the allure of the ring.”
The movie is expected to premiere at the Venice Film Festival within the next few days and at the New York Film Festival in October. Well, that is if Bruce finishes in time! A wider release is expected sometime early next year.

I thought the Fountain was amazing. Looking. At least.
