Velvet Revolver ponies up the dough for plagiarism

Literally by the hour, Velvet Revolver resembles more of a train wreck than an actual band these days. First off, there was that internal difference of affairs between Scott Weiland and the rest of the group, which resulted in Weiland reuniting Stone Temple Pilots and going on tour with them. Then came the almost hiring of former Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon and the whole Lenny Kravitz debacle. And finally, the rumors that the original Guns ‘N Roses had finally settled their differences - agree to reunite over Dr. Pepper and play kick ass music again. Boy we were wrong…

With all these nails in the coffin, you’d think the vampire would be dead by now, right?  Far from it.  According to Metal Hammer, Tony Newton, bassist of London based Voodoo Six, filed a lawsuit against the supergroup over a plagiarism charge:

It is claimed that Velvet Revolver’s ‘Dirty Little Thing’ from 2004’s ‘Contraband’ contains an identical melody and core guitar riff to Newton’s ‘Cyber Babe’, which comes from Dirty Deeds 1999 album ‘Real World’.

As a result, Velvet Revolver handed over 20% of their royalties to Newton and Co. On the flip side, Voodoo Six is celebrating by gearing up for a fall tour in the U.K.  Seriously folks, this just seems like the planets are aligning and trying to prevent further growth of this band. Could it be fate or reasoning to really reunite the original GNR?  Why else would Slash defend Axl in the Chinese Democracy leaks?

Who’s stirring the GNR Kool-Aid?  And what’s so civil about war anyway?
