Punks and Indie Rockers on Johnny Cash tribute album
Since 2005’s Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line was released, followed by last year’s parody, Walk Hard, the Johnny Cash homage overload has pretty much died down. However, praise of the late legend will resume with the Anchorless Records release of All Aboard: A Tribute To Johnny Cash on October 21st. Taglined by the label as “Punk/Indie Greats Honor The Man In Black,” the album will offer renditions from the likes of The Bouncing Souls, The Dresden Dolls (Feat. Franz Nicolay Of The Hold Steady), The Gaslight Anthem, The Sainte Catherines, Ben Nichols Of Lucero, Chuck Ragan, and more. As far as the album’s song selection goes, the label had this to say about it.
The range of songs chosen include Johnny Cash’s first single (The Flatliner’s covering “Cry, Cry, Cry”) and travels through a long and unparalleled career to the last single released by the Man in Black, “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” performed by The Gaslight Anthem. It is our hope that through this record we are able to introduce a new generation of music fans to the songs and importance of Johnny Cash via their favorite artists.
Anchorless Records will donate all the profits from the album sales to the Syrentha Savio Endowment (SSE),
“a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to underprivileged women who cannot afford the expense of fighting breast cancer.”
Let’s hope they do the man in black some justice.

This sounds like the perfect gift for anyone who really liked Johnny Cash’s music but wishes that it was performed by shitty bands instead.
Well, Mr. Mike… I’m sorry they couldn’t get Lil Wayne for one of the tracks. Haha. I kid, I kid.
mr mike you a freakin hilarious ….
that totally made my day
Well thanks…at long last I have a biggest fan!
Funny thing about this little conversation here…just a few hours after my little jab and Roffman’s anti-rap rebuttal I found a news story about a HIP HOP Johnny Cash album that is coming out in a couple weeks. The whole story is at beatspermil.com if anyone wants to read it…but basically it is called Johnny Cash Remixed and a bunch of producers do just that. But here is the kicker…the thing is executive produced by John Carter Cash, Beyonce’s dad, and Snoop Dogg. I am fairly certain that this is going to top my year end albums list.
So now the emo kids can make jokes at my expense.
