Crooked Fingers go independent with friends
Any band personally approved by Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff is not only a must list to on our playlists, must a must write about on the site. So cue Crooked Fingers.
After deviating from the “drunken and the melancholy” type sounds common on their first three albums in favor of a more simplistic and accessible approach on 2005’s acclaimed Dignity and Shame, Crooked Fingers are ready to unveil their latest curve ball. However, this time around, the Eric Bachmann led outfit is tinkering more with the physical elements, leaving the record labels behind and going with a direct-to-retail approach.
The result is Forfeit/Fortune, Crooked Fingers’ fifth full-length effort and first ever independent release. Available at shows and through the band’s website and iTunes begining October 7th, the 11-track record will combine the Seattle natives’ fullest and most eclectic orchestration to date with a number of star-studded guest appearances. Silver Jews’ Brian Kotzur, Devotchka’s Tom Hagerman provide string elements on Forfeit/Fortune, while Neko Case shows up on a duet near the end of the album.
In support of the release, Crooked Fingers will spend the next few weeks on the tour with both Sheff and Okkervil River before hitching up with Port O’Brien for some west coast dates. Speaking of Okkervil, Bachmann recently covered the Texas outfit’s song “Bruce Wayne Campbell”.
