MGMT, Chemical Brothers to collaborate on new album?
Back in July, MGMT caused quite a stir when the Brooklyn duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser revealed that they had begun thinking about the follow up to 2007’s Oracular Spectacular. While the band went on to note that it wouldn’t be until January before it hit the studio, the news did seem to cause quite a stir in the blogosphere.
Are you ready for more?
Despite the fact, at least as far as we can tell, MGMT has still yet to officially hit the studio, the duo is now detailing some of the plays it has for its second full-length effort. Among them? “Experiment
with [The Chemical Brothers] to create a different sound.” Yes folks, according to the one and only NME, the Brooklynites will team up with the creators of the recently released Brotherhood for some collaborative efforts…
Andrew told NME: “Oracular Spectacular has both pop songs and psychedelic songs, so we thought we’d make a double album next - with one disc for pop and the other for psychedelia.”
The pair revealed that Chemical Brothers Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands emailed them and the bands had since been exchanging ideas.
Andrew added: “They’ve collaborated with people like Noel Gallagher before and they have this psychedelic side to them, so we’ll find a common ground.”
Now only if we could get Thom Yorke somehow involved. Then, we’d be talking!
Until then, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to check out MGMT live in the coming months…
