Minitek Festival doesn’t go according to plan…
This past weekend, thousands of folks from around the world traveled to New York City to take in the sights and sounds of the first annual Minitek Festival. In fact, so many so that the Mutek organized festival apparently become overwhelmed by the many fans eager to take in the electro-friendly sounds of Richie Hawton, M.A.N.D.Y., Guy Gerber and other. Either that, or the festival lacked some serious organizational skills.
According to readers’ comments from over the weekend and an article appearing on Big Shot Magazine, Minitek experienced a number of problems throughout the weekend. Day one saw many ticket holders stranded outside the “empty” Penn Plaza Pavilion, the site of day one’s festivities - “I later found out from a friend who actually made it in that the venue was as big as half a Manhattan block and it was empty, he said,” noted one CoS reader, while between weather and organization problems, day two’s portion of the festival kicked off several hours late.
Fortunately, by Saturday night, Minitek did reportedly get its an act together, leaving attendees with a day and a half of memorable music festival moments.

Minitek has yet to issue a statement regarding Friday’s night confusion though we’d keep checking its blog if you were one of the ones left out. Surely, you’ll get some explanation, right?

Clearly someone forgot to get their cabaret permit straight, i.e. pay off the necessary authorities, because what a mess. Hundreds of people standing around smack dab in the middle of midtown Manhattan at two in the morning, with pre-ordered tickets in hand, and no go.
I say return to the Minimoo formula: warehouse, sound system, word of mouth.
And the Mets were rained out, too. Some luck.
This was not promoted or associated in any way by Mutek. Rather it was promoted by a bunch of elitist technohipsters with zero promotional chops out to personally “save” New York. Karma bit their egos pretty hard this weekend, and I must say the schadenfreude is sweet.
