Update: MGMT addresses rumors, broken foot

Chalk up another reminder as to why never to trust NME. Earlier this week, the British music outlet reported news of MGMT’s intentions to “experiment with The Chemical Brothers” on the Brooklyn duo’s upcoming second studio album.

Of course, anything that seems too good to be true usually is and when you add NME’s history of overexcitement into the equation, the story was likely doomed from the onset. So it should probably comes as little surprise that MGMT is now disputing the claim of a collaboration with the legendary British outfit. “Contrary to another internet rumor, though they be rad dudes, the Chemical Brothers will not be producing MGMT’s next album,” the band revealed in a blog post on its MySpace.

MGMT further dampened the mood by going on to detail a recent injury experienced by drummer Will Berman’s heel. Despite resulting in a few canceled concerts last week, the heel is neither broken, nor will mark the end of the Brooklyn outfit “forever,” as initially feared.

In celebration of the news, MGMT has unveiled a cover of Laid Back’s synth-friendly “Roger” and details of its Halloween plans.
