CoS Giveaway: Little Britain USA
Update: We’ve decided to extend the deadline. So read the details below and shoot us an email if you’re interested!
On September 28, HBO will unveil its latest comedy series, Little Britian USA. An adaption of the acclaimed BBC series of the same title (minus the USA part), the character-based sketch show will offer six episodes of recurring characters and catchphrases behind a cast of British notables (Matt Lucas and David Walliams) and high-profile guest stars (Paul Rudd, Rosie O’Donnell, Sting, and Vivica A. Fox).
Set in contemporary America, LITTLE BRITAIN USA will feature familiar “Little Britain” characters in new sketches, as well as brand new characters, all performed by Lucas and Walliams. Returning favorites include Dafydd Thomas, the self-proclaimed “only gay in the village”; Emily Howard, an awkward and obvious cross-dresser in denial; Lou and his seemingly wheelchair-bound best friend Andy; Marjorie Dawes, the insensitive leader of a chapter of the weight-loss support group FatFighters; Vicky Pollard, a motormouthed teenage delinquent with a terrible attitude; Harvey, a young adult who still craves his mother’s “bitty”; Sebastian Love, the British prime minister, who has “amorous” feelings towards his U.S. counterpart; and Carol Beer, a hospital receptionist who always follows the rules.
In celebration of the premiere and the fact that Sting will soon be appearing on our television screens, we have a couple exclusive Little Britian USA 1 GB Mimobot flashdrives (retail: $35.95) to give away. If interested, shoot us an email with your name and mailing address. We’ll select a winner at random on Friday afternoon.

I can’t wait for this show to premiere. It looks pretty good.
Loved the British version of this show. Britcoms are the best.

hate to be a downer but… i think this isnt going to be good. if you have seen the birtish version, you should know half the stuff wouldnt be able to be shown on US tvs, but maybe because its on hbo it might.
Nick have you ever even watched programming on HBO? Its a fucking subscription channel and can show everything British tv can and more.
For example, in their series debut of True Blood, there was a graphic bondage sex scene. Are you going to see that on British tv? And look at the Sopranos, they said the word “fuck” on that show during a one hour episode more than they probably say it in a entire day on a Brit tv channel.
So to hypothesize that Little Britain USA is not going to be good simply because of its content matter and how it wouldn’t be able to be shown on “US tvs” is not fair. To even be in doubt that HBO can air what British tv can air is ridiculous.
First off, I want these damn USB things, I love the British version.
Second Off, I want to know if Bev has seen the British version. There is more than a few things that I wondered if they would be able to get away with on HBO. If you are familiar with HBO, they are known for having amazing taste in comedy and then being critical as fuck when it is made. Mr. Show, Life with Louie and others all ended before their time. HBO has been effected by the change in television censorship, just not as much. But yes, it does indeed look pretty good from what I’ve seen from the trailers.
Thirdly, Matt couldn’t be any more correct, British comedy is amazing and ahead of most comedy in the world. People should check out The Mighty Boosh, it heavily involved music into every episode, was featured in music magazines, and even presented a day long music festival this past summer.
I enjoyed Little Britain (UK version)-only criticism, they get hold of a joke and then repeat it too much. Very funny for the first few shows and then using the same formula over and over again starts to wear a bit thin after a while so I’m looking forward to seeing some new characters in the US version.
Meanwhile HBO’s The Wire season 5 just got released in the UK yesterday. Very excited about this! I think it’s a great show, one of my favourites. I’m working my way through The Sopranos and then saving The Wire for cold winter evenings. Shame it’s the last series.
Chalky,
Word. They were one-note characters, and some of the gags hold up through several episodes and others didn’t. It looks as though they’ll be keeping the most enduring/endearing characters (Daffyd Rocks!!!, as does Fat Fighters) and filling out the show with new ones.
Russ,
The more and more I watch British/Aussie/Kiwi-based Comedy, the more and more convinced I am that I’ll probably never watch American TV again, outside of a South Park episode here and there. Actually, Canadian comedies have been pretty good, too.
Not to offend anyone’s taste, but you guys can keep Friends, Seinfeld, and The Simpsons. I’ll take FOTC, Little Britain, The League of Gentleman, Yes, Minister, and The Kids in the Hall and countless other imported classics.
