Broken Social Scene talks next album, adds tour dates

There’s no denying Broken Social Scene is one of the hardest working bands around, but the past nine months have seen the Canada based outfit even busier than little. Between the release of Brendan Canning’s debut solo album, Something For All of Us, back in July to some rather high-profile festival in Tennessee and Chicago, one has to think BSS is running on fumes by now.

If they are, Canning, Kevin Drew, and everyone else considered a BSSer sure aren’t showing it. In addition to a slew of upcoming North American tour dates, which include some brand new ones for November, the indie favorites are already thinking ahead to their next full-length effort. While very little was divulged, in a recent interview with Pitchfork, Canning did confirm the band’s upcoming do include working on a brand new album.

The guitarist noted that Broken Social Scene has tentative plans to begin writing in December, though a much-needed break may push that back a bit. “It hasn’t been full-on this year, but we’ve been on the road since February. We’ve had time off here and there, but no long lengths of time away from each other.” Ahead of the work, Canning plans to debut a few new selections on the road during many of the band’s upcoming tour dates…

Yeah, I think we could at least throw in two or three. We have some songs that aren’t recorded, and whether they make a record or not is anyone’s guess. You never really know ’til you sit down, start writing, kind of figure out what shape and size the record is going to come in.

Broken Social Scene will premiere its new music for “Churches Under the Stairs” on Friday, September 26th via Pitchfork.tv.
