Mogwai drummer hospitalized, U.S. tour cancelled

Contrary to popular belief, it looks like the first annual ATP New York wasn’t all positive, especially for Martin Bulloch and Mogwai. Following the Scottish outfit’s performance at the New York based festival this weekend, Bulloch was hospitalized due to complications from his recently installed pacemaker.

I was taken into hospital last night almost immediately after the show at ATP. I’ve been having some problems with my pacemaker for the duration of the tour and it unfortunately culminated in me being sent to the emergency room. The doctors there initially thought i would have to have corrective surgery at a larger hospital nearer NYC but i have been given the all clear to travel home on the understanding that i go straight to my cardiologist on arrival back in Scotland.

As a result, Mogwai has been forced to postpone the remaining dates of its North American tour until early 2009. The band’s upcoming overseas dates in October are still “going ahead as planned.”

Thankfully, not only does it appear Bulloch will make a full recovery, but videos from last weekend’s performance at ATP are starting to pop up for fans left waiting until next year. So it’s not all that bad.
