Weezer kicks off tour with covers galore

Weezer kicks off tour with covers galore

Last night, Weezer officially kicked off its long overdue North American tour at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts. And perhaps most appropriately considering the band’s actions of late, Rivers Cuomo and company brought quite a few surprises along with them.

In addition to the mix of usual favorites and Red Album material that made up last night’s 22-song set, Weezer offered its rendition of two music staples - Nirvana’s “Silver” and Oasis’ “Morning Glory”. Rolling Stone has more details…

The strangest moments of the night came during their covers of Oasis’ “Morning Glory” and Nirvana’s “Sliver,” the latter of which came after Cuomo played the Cobain-saluting “Heart Songs” on a record player.

A few videos from last night’s festivities are starting to pop up. We’ll add more as we see them…

“Morning Glory” (Oasis)

“Silver” (Nirvana)

“Island in the Sun” (Hootenanny)

As video #3 indicates, the performance also include some of Weezer’s unique hooting and ‘nanning. Of course, this isn’t the first time the L.A. outfit has busted out the covers (see: Radiohead, R.E.M.), but it sure make those ticket prices a bit easier to swallow.

  1. the Oasis cover sounded awful. the band sounded ok, but Brian just can’t sing in my opinion.

  2. We were at the show too! Got some amazing up close photos and of course posted a review as always. Feel free to visit if you want to see more Weezer photos.

  3. That Oasis song sounded awesome in Chicago. WAY better than it sounds on this youtube video- but of course, being there and watching it live is going to make it a million times more fun.

Plus I knew all the words so I was singing along the whole time.

Actually the Oasis song was my favorite part of the entire show.
