The Kinks still thinking reunion?

With The Police now finished, Led Zeppelin reportedly looking to replace Robert Plant, and Phish leaving everyone guessing as to what its future holds, there aren’t many big-time reunions to look forward to in the very near future. Add in the passing of Steve Foley and Richard Wright, and you can pretty much count out the possibility of The Replacements and Pink Floyd getting back together as well.

So is there anything left that will get folks excited, a reunion that will draw the masses, and serve as a pretty stellar headliner for several of next summer’s music festivals. Well, if Ray Davies has it his way, The Kinks will be serving this role.

After hinting at the possibility earlier this year only to be shot down by brother Dave just days later, the Kinks frontman is once again using the word “reunion” in conversations about the band’s future. In a recent interview with BBC, Davies noted that the possibility for some worldwide get together, which would be the band’s first performance since 1996, if several conditions can be worked out:

“There is a desire to do it, but the thing that would make me decide yes or no would be whether or not we could do new songs, even if it’s four or five,” Davies said.

“But I couldn’t do it just for nostalgic reasons.”

Davies also went on to explain that the health of Dave Davies would also be a factor in the band’s ultimate decision.

“The stumbling block is my brother because he was seriously ill recently and whether he feels ready to do it…”

Guitarist Dave Davies suffered a stroke after collapsing in June 2004.

Despite all of this, Davies went on to say that the band is “three quarters of the way” to a reunion, something not only intriguing considering, well it is the Kinks we’re talking about, but also when thinking about the possible headlining options for next summer’s countless number of festivities.
