My Bloody Valentine thinks new album(s)?

Live isn’t the only place My Bloody Valentine is looking to deliver. At least if you believe the reports currently teasing the hearts and minds of music fans everywhere. In an interview with The New York Times following this month’s headlining performance at ATP New York, frontman Kevin Shields confirmed his intention to begin work on the English outfit’s long-awaited follow-up to 1991’s Loveless. And get this, one isn’t the number on his mind…

In 2006 Mr. Shields started remastering the My Bloody Valentine catalog and revisiting unreleased songs to be added to a compilation album. When he listened again to material from the aborted third album, he was heartened. “I realized that all that stuff I was doing in 1996 and 1997 was a lot better than I thought.” He now plans to complete that album, and to start recording new material with the band in the fall. He has been writing songs steadily over the years. “I definitely don’t think you need to suffer to be creative,” he said. “I’ve written some of my best songs when I’ve been happy.”

When and how MBV will release the material remains to be seen, but it’s probably safe to say most folks won’t have much problem waiting a little bit longer. After all, it’s already been 17 years and most of us have survived…
